“That she’s a writer and recording artist of upmost integrity has never been in question; but this was a 30-minute moment of an artist realising she’s about to hit bigger things… melodies that flout gravity, and a personality that is so genuine, that it’s impossible to imagine her not making records for the next 20 years – Spiral Magazine
Having been nominated for Denmark’s prestigious Gaffa award for Best Female Artist twice in three years; and having been the recipient of the Bands of Tomorrow ‘Pop Artist Of The Year’ award in 2013, Copenhagen based Penny Police’s releases to date have been showered with four and five star reviews across the board that laud her musicality, and her ability to conjure melodies so light, pure and delicately delivered it is as though they were made from the hydrogen atoms teased from a teardrop. With her personalised brand of poetic and ambient art-pop, Marie Fjeldsted (aka Penny Police) is an artist so steeped in empathy, warmth and humanity you’d be forgiven for thinking she’d seen the inside of your private journal. Her warm, almost whispery voice gently guides the listener through her ballads, songs which are often based on a mixture of real life and found footage: conversations overheard, television clips... pieces otherwise forgotten.
In the spring of 2017 she released the single “No Horizon” having had a couple of years away from the circuit, which resulted in a new wave of critical approval, not only in Denmark where the song was – and still is - in heavy rotation on national radio, but also in UK where The Line Of Best Fit, JaJaJa and Amazing Radio among others have been loyal supporters. The song also won Amazing Radio’s Alternative Eurovision, competing with songs from all across Europe.
Penny Police release a new EP in February 2018, before embarking on her long awaited second full album.
